COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Analyze body measurements and compare them to patterns to make
   appropriate alterations.
2.  Identify fabrics suitable for men's shirts.
3.  Identify various interfacings and where to use each type in a man's
   shirt.
4.  Analyze industrial construction techniques as they relate to men's
   shirts.
5.  Apply industrial techniques in the construction process.
6.  Demonstrate the ability to construct a professional looking man's
   tailored shirt.

Topics and Scope

1.  Learn to measure the male torso and use these measurements to
   determine pattern alterations needed.
2.  Evaluate various fabrics used for men's shirts.
3.  Identify different interfacings and select ones appropriate for
   style and fabric of shirt.
4.  Analyze conventional and industrial construction techniques.
5.  Select industrial techniques appropriate for custom men's shirts.
6.  Construction techniques to include:
     seams, pockets, sport collars, two-piece collars, front bards,
     sleeve vents, cuffs sleeves, hems, buttons and buttonholes.

Assignments:

1.  Construct 1 long sleeved shirt with a two-piece collar.
2.  Construct 1 other shirt.
3.  Assemble a notebook of construction techniques.
