COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

The student will be able by the completion of the semester to:
1.  Analyze and apply rhythm, tempo and dynamics to reading, composing
   and playing musical scores for dance.
   a.  Demonstrate the ability to read and use rhythm.
   b.  Explore the use of rhythm in movement.
2.  Demonstrate knowledge of the variety of instruments used in dance
   accompaniment.
3.  Develop skills to play basic rhythmic patterns on percussion
   instruments.

Topics and Scope

1.  Concepts of rhythm, both in music and movement.
   a.  Reading and writing rhythmic patterns.
   b.  Dictation from sound and movement.
   c.  Analysis of rhythmic components of selected musical works;
       counterpoint, unison, mixed meter, development of dynamics
       through rhythm, and use of those elements in creation of
       movement ideas.
2.  Playing and studying of percussion instruments and composing of
   musical score.
