COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Topics and Scope

1.  Identify different stretch fabrics and learn the characteristics
   of each.
2.  Selection of patterns suitable for the various types of fabrics.
3.  Learn appropriate construction techniqeus for patters and fabrics.
4.  Experience drafting necklines and sleeves or body to vary a patterns.
5.  Identify the various types of laces, elastics and trips suitable
   for stretch apparel.
6.  Use of both the serger and conventional machines in constructing
   stretch apparel.
7.  Comparison of ready made garments to ones made in class considering
   quality of fabric, fit and construction.

Assignments:

1.  Construct three shirts, each with a different neckline.
2.  Design and draft at least one new technique (neckline, sleeve or
   body detail) and construct it.
3.  Construct a swim suit, exercise garment or similar type of garment.
4.  Construct one lingerie item.
5.  Construct one additional item which will be of student's choice.
6.  Make a cost and quality comparison to ready to wear.
