Normal human body structure and function. Fundamentals of nursing, nursing process, basic pharmacology, and the more common diseases. Emphasis is on the theoretical aspects of planning and implementing total care of geriatric, chronically ill, and sub-acute patients. Consideration is given to mental health concepts.

Prerequisites/Corequisites:
FD NT 62 (Food, Diet and Nutrition Therapy) - 3 units. HLC 50 or Anat 51 - 3 units. APS/Essay:English 100A placement Computational Skills Test: Minimum Score of 25


Recommended Preparation:
English 100A and English 100B with a grade of "C" or better or qualify for English 1A on the APS/WS. College Skills 373A/B Math for Health Occupations HLC 60 Medical Terminology NR A 51.1 or equivalent

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

2.  Describe/apply the use of biological and physiological concepts
   as they are utilized in the nursing process.
3.  Identify health care goals for adults, with emphasis on the geriatric
   patient.
4.  Recognize the significance of spiritual and social aspects in
   planning and implementing patient care.
5.  Explain the rationale underlying the performance of basic nursing
   skills.
6.  Describe the pathological process in selected common disease states.
7.  Describe principles relevant to the administration of medications.
8.  Describe the role of the Vocational Nurse as a member of the health
   care team.
9.  Describe legal rights of patients and ethical implications
   associated with health care delivery.
