Catalog Description:

A study of the knowledge and skills required to be successful in the Firefighter I Academy including hose handling, knot tying, the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), use of fire department ground ladders and physical training. Students will also be introduced to the code of conduct required in a fire academy setting and background investigations used in the fire service hiring process.

Description:

COURSE CONTENT

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1. Describe the organization of the fire service and the preparation necessary to become a firefighter.

2. Demonstrate basic firefighting skills utilizing industry tools and equipment.

3. Demonstrate the ability to complete effective written and oral reports.

1. Describe the organization and role of a fire department as well as their relationship with

    other allied agencies

2. Describe the preparation necessary to become a firefighter

3. Describe the expectations of fire service personnel

4. Describe the background investigation process used in the firefighter hiring process
