At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

I.          Demonstrate skills in a variety of Israeli and Middle Eastern
           Folk dances.
II.         Analyze Israeli and Middle Eastern dances by their style,
           steps and costumes.
III.        Identify evolution of Middle Eastern Folk dance.

Topics and Scope

       A. Cultural background of folk dance
       B. Dance function:  ceremony or celebration
II.     Learning different ethnic dance styles
       A. Basic dance steps
       B. Musical styles
       C. Characteristic rhythms
III.  Influences on different ethnic styles
       A. How ethnic costumes affect the dance movements
       B. How music  affects the steps used in dance
       C. How the climate and topography of the country affects
        the dance movements and steps of the area
