At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.   Develop working relationships with local mortuaries to fulfill their needs and requirements while meeting the needs of the deceased's families.
2.   Discuss the principles of selling sympathy work.
3.   Create and design standing, sprays, set pieces, and casket sprays, using the proper mechanics for sympathy arrangements.

1.   Design and arrange pieces for casket lid, free-form and using different forms.
2.   Set up different kinds and sizes of easels.
3.   Design and arrange a flat spray, standing spray, and sympathy arrangements.
4.   Design a casket cover for an open and one for a closed casket.
5.   Attend field trip to mortuary and cemetery. Written field notes: 2-3 pages per visit.
6.   Portfolio: assemble photos of design projects with accompanying journal entries listing materials and describing methods for each project.
7.   Final exam.
8.   Final project: Design, construct, and set up a complete funeral display.
