Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Perform syncopated rhythms in simple and compound meter signatures.
2. Take dictation of syncopated rhythms in simple and compound meter
signatures.
3. Prepare and sight-sing melodies in major and minor keys with
syncopation, chromatic alterations, and modulation to closely related
keys.
4. Take dictation of melodies in major and minor keys with syncopation,
chromatic alterations, and modulation to closely related keys.
5. Aurally identify and transcribe 4-part harmonic progressions utilizing
secondary dominant chords and modulation to closely related keys.
Topics and Scope

Sight-singing, ear training, and melodic and harmonic dictation utilizing:
I. Syncopation
II. Decorative (non-functional)chromaticism
III. Non-dominant seventh chords in major and minor keys
IV. Modal borrowing
V. Scalar variants in minor keys
VI. Tonicization and modulation to closely related keys
VII. Canons, rounds, chorales, and other ensemble pieces
