Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1.  State the entry rules and eligibility requirements for livestock
fairs, sales, and expositions.
2.  Differentiate among the major systems for evaluation of livestock and
horses and evaluate animals using these systems.
3.  Determine minimum qualifications for entry of livestock and horses
into fairs, sales, and expositions.
4.  Develop appropriate educational displays for fairs, sales, and
expositions.
5.  Properly and safely transport livestock and horses.
6.  Adopt correct and ethical procedures for the proper and humane
handling of livestock and horses.
7.  Plan, organize, promote, and participate in activities directly
related to fairs, sales, and expositions.
8.  Identify skills and knowledge needed to establish a work ethic and an
aptitude for developing a successful exhibit at fairs.

Assignments:

1.  Reading: approximately 15-25 pages per week.
2.  Activities associated with planning, organizing, managing and
promoting a livestock exhibition (including forms and materials associated
with livestock shows, e.g., entry forms, news releases, budget, operations
schedule).
3.  Labs: evaluation and selection of animals; maintenance of animals (at
Shone Farm); preparation of animals for exhibits.
4. Skill demonstrations: exhibit at livestock judging clinic and livestock
judging contest.
5. Research and develop an educational display for several species of
livestock based on the most current information.
6. Quizzes (1-3); midterm.
7. Final project: prepare for and exhibit at feeder show.
