Designed for experienced musicians who are able to perform at college level on a wind or percussion instrument. Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Accurately interpret and perform college-level classic and contemporary
    wind ensemble literature.
2. Demonstrate technical proficiency in the performance of selected literature.
3. Sight read college-level wind ensemble literature on a wind or percussion instrument.
4. Evaluate and critically analyze their musical performance for future improvement.
Students repeating Wind Symphony will be able to:
1. Demonstrate greater technical achievement on their instrument.
2. Articulate musical phrases with greater clarity.
3. Perform with higher standards of intonation.
4. Demonstrate a more sophisticated comprehension of dynamics, phrasing,
musical expression, and nuance.
5. Demonstrate greater skill in sight-reading.  

Topics and Scope

I. Sight-reading of college-level literature for wind ensemble.
II. Rehearsal and public performance of classic and contemporary works for
    wind ensemble.
III. Study of particular technical challenges specific to the literature studied.
IV. Wind instrument articulation techniques specific to the literature studied.
V. Special challenges in intonation and blend in the performance of the literature studied.
VI. The components of musical expression, such as phrasing, dynamic
     contrast, and nuance.
VII. Differences in musical style specific to the literature studied.
VIII. Critical analysis and comparison of the different artistic goals
      specific to the literature studied.
IX.  Performance etiquette and proper performance attire.
X. Students repeating Wind Symphony will perform new literature each semester,
     building on both their skill level and knowledge of the repertoire.  

Assignments:

1.  In-class rehearsal and preparation of designated works.
2.  Attendance at sectional rehearsals when scheduled.
3.  A minimum of one hour of outside practice per week is required for each hour of rehearsal.
4.  Final exam will be a public concert.
5.  Students repeating Wind Symphony will be held to higher standards of performance with each repetition.
