COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1.  Assess and present a summary of the client's physical status
   (including vital signs).
2.  Identify significant medical and dental modifications required
   before proceeding with Dental Hygiene care, determine proper
   precautionary procedures (including consultation and/or
   referral) and apply those modifications during dental hygiene care.
3.  Follow appropriate emergency procedures whenever necessary for the
   client's well-being.
4.  Adhere to infection control protocols.
5.  Provide comprehensive dental hygiene care for assigned clients.  Care
   will include assessment procedures, recording (charting) of
   findings, problem identification, dental hygiene treatment planning,
   case presentation, gaining client informed consent, implementing
   the individualized dental hygiene care which may include: preventive
   services, therapeutic procedures, adjunct therapies and evaluation
   of client response.
6.  Describe dental hygiene care modifications required with regard to:
   communication, safety precautions, appointment planning, care
   environment, individualized home care and oral manifestations or
   therapeutic side effects for the delivery of comprehensive dental
   hygiene care for clients with special needs.
7.  Integrate and correlate the basic, beshavioral and dental sciences as
   they apply to the care of the denteal hygiene clinic clients.
