COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

At the end of the semester the student will:
1. Be able to perform the basic falling and rolling skills of Judo
  known as Ukeme.
2. Know the fundamentals of balance, posture and movment.  Be familiar
  with basic Judo vocabulary.
3. Name a basic fitness regimen, and improved fitness level.
4. Be familiar with the basic 9 throws of Judo, and the basic pins,
  locks, chokes and escapes of Judo mat work.
5. Know the basics of the history of Judo, as it developed in the
  United States.
6. Have a foundation of self defense/Ju-jitsu as it applies to basic Judo
  principals.

A.  Basic history and philosophy of Judo.
B.  Principals of balance, movement, posture, falling skills.
C.  Basic Judo throwing techniques.
     1. Hip techniques.
     2. Hand techniques.
     3. Leg techniques.
D.  Basic mat techniques.
     1. Pins, basic 7 pins or hold downs.
     2. Chokes, basic 3 techniques.
     3. Locks,legs around bottom, top, turnovers.
     4. Escapes, uphill, crab, leg entanglement, bridge and roll.
E.  Basic rules of Judo competition
F.  Basics of self defense/Ju-jitsu applications of Judo.
G.  Fitness concepts, regimen,and awareness.
