COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

The student will be able to:
1.  Identify different eras of modern swimwear.
2.  Recognize & describe appropriate line, design, & color concepts for
   various figure types.
3.  Demonstrate proper measurements & fitting techniques appropriate for
   swimsuits.
4.  Apply alteration techniques to commercial patterns for individual
   body types.
5.  Identify & select appropriate fabric & materials specific to the
   swimwear & active wear industry.
6.  Demonstrate the ability to apply appropriate construction techniques
   on a swimsuit such as: elastic insertion, underwire bra construction,
   soft cup bra shelf construction, lining, closures.
7.  Complete 5 samples of construction techniques.
8.  Complete a properly fitted & constructed swimsuit.
9.  Evaluate the samples & completed swimwear.

5. Pattern alterations:

  e. waist & hips adjustments.
6. Demonstration of sewing machine & serger machine techniques used on
  swimwear.

  d. machine troubleshooting, needle, presser foot & machine pressure
7. Demonstrate a variety of construction techniques:
  a. elastic insertion
  b. bra underwire insertion
  c. soft cup bra shelf construction

  f. spaghetti straps
