Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

Emphasis on wellness. Care of the obstetrical and pediatric client in a
variety of clinical settings (hospital, clinics, nursery school, home and
1esidential care settings).
1. Demonstrate safety principles in care of postpartum, infants, and
pediatric clients (i.e. positioning techniques, and checking I.D. bands).
2. Safely administer and document oral and injectable medications.
3. Identify rationales and demonstrate ability to apply principles of
special precautions (i.e. communicable diseases, universal precautions).
4. Identify normal growth and development of care of the acutely ill or
common chronic illnesses in outpatient and residential care settings.
5. Demonstrate assessment techniques of the postpartum client.
6. Demonstrate assessment techniques of the newborn client and identify
the universal needs of the newborn.
7. Participate in patient teaching and identify needs of familiy unit.
