Description:

The Construction Management Basic Skills Skills Certificate introduces students to the world of construction management and prepares students with knowledge and basic skills that enable them to function effectively in the construction management field or working for a general building contractor.

The program includes: an overview of basic manual drafting skills; the language of blueprints and specifications as applied to residential construction; an introduction to organization and management of construction projects; an overview of the construction industry, the building design process, construction project process, and roles and responsibilities of those involved; an overview of the architectural design process and the roles of participants; the language of blueprints and specifications as applied to non-residential construction; an examination of project organization and management issues; and the development of basic construction-related writing and graphic representation skills.

Students completing the Construction Management Basic Skills Skills Certificate may find employment in the following areas: assistant to a contractor or construction manager; office assistant; plan checker; construction materials sales; on-site construction work.
