The Adobe Certification Training in Illustrator Skills Certificate provides instruction in the vector graphic program, Illustrator. This program of study helps prepare the student for the Adobe Illustrator ACE industry exam, and will enhance the student's value in the job market. The skills are applicable to occupations involving printed and web media.

Illustrator is the most widely used graphics program to create vector graphics for packaging and design for both print and the web. This program is widely used by graphic artists, illustrators, web designers and desktop publishers.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:

  1. Create a variety of documents that exhibit the full gamut of Illustrator skills from beginning to advanced levels;
  2. use critical thinking skills to formulate, apply and integrate assets in transferring Illustrator documents into print, PDF, or web environments; and
  3. demonstrate knowledge necessary to complete the studies for the Adobe certified expert industry exam in Adobe Illustrator.

The Adobe Certification Training in Photoshop Skills Certificate provides a course of study in the graphics program, Photoshop. This program of study helps prepare the student to take the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) and Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) industry exams for Photoshop.

A Photoshop ACA has earned a certification that validates entry-level skills in visual communication. A Photoshop ACE has earned a certification that validates expert-level skills. Both certifications indicate a significant depth and breadth of Photoshop knowledge and experience and enhance the recipients' value in the job market.

These digital media skills are applicable to many careers including photographer, digital art, web page designer, desktop publishing, and video producer.

Upon successful completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:

  1. Create and edit complex digital images using basic through advanced Photoshop features;
  2. use critical thinking skills to evaluate an image, develop a strategy to repair and/or enhance it, and make the appropriate adjustments;
  3. demonstrate the knowledge necessary to pass the Adobe Certified Associate exam and complete the studies to pass the Adobe Certified Expert exam; and
  4. perform the Photoshop skills essential to a career in photography, digital art, desktop publishing, or Web page design.

It is important that students who are completing an Associate Degree and desire to transfer to a four-year institution meet with a counselor to plan their lower division coursework. Notes:

The first course in this certificate, CS 70.11A, has no prerequisite and the recommended completion of CIS 101A, CIS 105A or CIS 5 and eligibility for ENGL 100 or ESL 100. The other courses have CS 70.11A as a prerequisite.
