Description:
The Fashion Studies Certificate consists of three options: Fashion Studies - Apparel Design & Production; Fashion Studies - Custom Clothing & Alterations; and Fashion Studies - Fashion Merchandising.
The Fashion Studies: Custom Clothing and Alterations Certificate of Achievement is designed for the student interested in working for, or developing for themselves, a custom sewing and alteration business.
Students will learn advanced techniques in sewing and tailoring on both conventional and Serger sewing machines, and techniques of fitting, alterations, and pattern development.
This program of study is also available as an Associate degree major option.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:
- Analyze customer needs and requests to produce special garments, modify styling and fit where appropriate;
- examine garments worn by customers, recommend fitting solutions, and reconstruct correctly fitting garments;
- construct garments using commercial and custom patterns;
- develop patterns for original designs using both flat pattern and draping methods; and
- choose appropriate fabrics for garment and accessory designs.
