Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

At the completion of this course in the clinical setting, the student will
be able to:
1. Demonstrate safe, competent nursing care utilizing the nursing process
and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory.
2. Apply behavior management principles and techniques.
3. Demonstrate ability to plan, implement and evaluate individual
behavioral care planning appropriate to the residents need and
developmental level.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to administer, evaluate and
document medications.
5. Perform in a manner that adheres to all professional, legal and
ethical standards and laws.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of community living, sheltered workshops and
vocational day programs.
7. Implement nursing care appropriate to specific syndromes, seizure
disorders, cerebral palsy and other disabling conditions.
8. Implements nursing care appropriate for communicable diseases and
other medical conditions.
9. Completes a Functional Skills Assessment on assigned resident.

5. Professional, legal and ethical standards, laws.
6. Community living, sheltered workshops and vocational day programs.
7. Nursing care of residents with specific syndromes, seizure disorders,
cerebral palsy and other disabling disorders.
8. Nursing care of residents with communicable diseases and other medical
conditions.
9. Assessment of functional skills.
Assignments:

1. Reading assignments in preparation for each clinical day from
required texts and clients records, 10-20 pages per week.
2. Complete an Intensive Learning Project as assigned.
3. Complete a Functional Skills Assessment utilizing correct format and
present to peers.
4. Pass an oral quiz, administer, evaluate results of and document
medications for a selected group of residents.
5. Perform and present basic assessments for select residents.
6. Document resident behavior on a daily basis using the SOAP format.
7. Perform nursing care appropriate to the clients need and developmental
level.
8. Actively participate in clinical conference.
