Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Rehearse and perform advanced-level piano literature.
2. Demonstrate technical proficiency at the keyboard and proper interpretation of musical elements.
3. Sight-read advanced-level piano literature with accuracy and expressiveness.
4. Differentiate between the roles of the soloist and the ensemble player.
5. Critically evaluate their performance and the performance of others.
6. Apply effective practice habits.
7. Demonstrate a coherent grasp of the depth and breadth of the piano literature.
8. Demonstrate professionalism at rehearsals and performances, including punctuality and appropriate concert dress.
Students repeating Piano Performance and Literature will be able to:
1. Demonstrate greater technical achievement at the keyboard.
2. Articulate musical phrases with greater clarity.
3. Demonstrate a more sophisticated comprehension of dynamics, phrasing, musical expression, and nuance.

IV. Technical challenges specific to the literature studied, such as:
A. Fingerings

A. Phrasing
B. Dynamic contrast and nuance
VI. Developing effective practice habits
VII. Understanding the different roles of the soloist and the ensemble player
VIII. Stage deportment, performance etiquette, and proper performance dress
IX. Discussion of differences in musical style specific to the literature studied
X. Critical analysis and comparison of the artistic goals specific to the literature studied
XI. Students repeating Piano Performance and Literature will perform new literature each semester, enhancing both their skill level and knowledge of the repertoire.
Assignments:

1. Prepare three or more solo compositions for performance in class and/or recital.
2. Rehearse and perform in duets and/or two-piano ensembles both in class and in preparation for public recital.
3. Sight-read compositions below performance level.
4. Complete assigned technique exercises and/or etudes.
5. Attend piano recitals and/or piano concerti performances and participate in class discussions of the technical, musical, and artistic aspects of these performances.
6. One oral presentation designed to add to the class's knowledge of composers, their historical context and their contribution to the piano literature.
7. A minimum of two hours of outside practice per week (individually and with ensemble partners) is required for each hour of in-class rehearsal.
8. Final exam will be a public recital or concert.
9. Students repeating Piano Performance and Literature will be held to higher standards of performance with each repetition.
