COURSE CONTENT

Student Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Design workflow environments that integrate multiple Adobe programs.

2.  Design advanced workflows using Adobe InDesign for online, interactive, and print media.

 

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Develop and manage online projects working collaboratively

2. Manage the elements of an Adobe workflow using multiple programs in the Creative Cloud

    (CC) which may include Adobe Bridge, Acrobat DC, Adobe InCopy, Adobe Muse, Adobe

    Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

3. Coordinate resources from imported assets using Microsoft Office and multiple operating

    systems

4. Create InDesign to PDF workflows that include interactive Portable Document Format (PDF)

    files, PDF forms, catalog files and Section 508 Accessibility Standards PDF files

5. Use scripting, (InDesign scripts), a command line utility (General Regular Expression Parser -

    GREP), and Extensible Markup Language (XML) to automate, streamline, and repurpose

    InDesign files and workflows

6. Create Reflowable and Fixed Layout electronic publishing (EPUB) files, and convert files to

    appropriate EPUB standard, as well as to appropriate device such as iOS, Android,

    Kindle, Nook, Kobo

7. Explore newest Adobe technology to enhance workflow efficiency

Assignments:

1. Create an InDesign-based Creative Cloud workflow involving Illustrator, Photoshop,

    InDesign, and Acrobat

2. Class collaboration projects using Acrobat Document Cloud tools

3. Create various PDFs from InDesign, including a catalog, interactive files, forms and Section

    508 Accessibility Standards files

4. Export a Creative Cloud Suite project cross-platform and manage InDesign legacy files

5. Create InDesign files that include XML, GREP, and InDesign scripts

6. Advanced project: create an interactive multi-page InDesign e-zine (online magazine)

7. Advanced project: Convert InDesign 2 book project to EPUB

8. Take examinations, including at least two tests and a final exam

9. Read between 10-20 pages per week from class notes, digital manuals, online references and

    recommended textbook
