COURSE CONTENT

Outcomes and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

1.  Students, working in a close relationship with an instructor in a
field and lab situation, will strengthen their photographic abilities
including their knowledge of exposure controls, camera operation and
composition.
2. Darkroom sessions will stress basic black and white film and print
processing methodology as well as color transparency film.

Topics and Scope

1.  Proper usage of various type cameras including the view camera.
2.  Effective exposure control including proper usage of the light meter.
3.  Light, exposure, and the use of filters.
4.  Composition and the elements of a photograph.
5.  A review of darkroom techniques including film processing and printing
6.  The preparation of a photo portfolio including mounting and display
   techniques.

Assignments:

Assignments may vary from session to session of Art 58, but will generally
consist of black and white or color photo assignments based on locations
selected for field trips.  Sometimes a critical paper will also be
assigned,based on the viewing of a photo exhibit during the course of the
class.
