Description:

The Ranger Academy Skills Certificate program prepares the student to work in a national park, wildlife refuge or other recreation area as a law enforcement officer. The curriculum includes a broad spectrum of federal statutes along with enforcement strategies and protocols. It further includes defensive tactics, firearms, and all subjects required by the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service for commission as a Seasonal Law Enforcement Ranger. Santa Rosa Junior College is authorized by the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service to issue this certificate. Individuals who complete the program and receive the certificate may obtain a commission authorizing employment as a Seasonal Law Enforcement Ranger from the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service.

Employment in this field is expected to increase faster than the average of all occupations through 2010. A more security conscious society concerned about crime and criminal behavior has increased the demand for National Park Service Rangers.

Certification Note:
Some public safety positions have legal requirements and background qualifications. Certain criminal violations may disqualify a candidate for certification. Contact the Public Safety Department for more information.
